The Barrington High School boys volleyball team notched another victory last week. The Eagles defeated Woonsocket in three straight sets, 25-22, 25-17, 25-9.
Barrington Coach Christian Lambert said James Ciummo played well against the Novans. Ciummo, a senior, had nine kills and two blocks. Cam Kelley finished the match with 10 kills and two digs, and Donovan Park played a key role in the victory, finishing with five aces and seven kills.
The Eagles also finished third in the Rhody Invitational Tournament at Rhode Island College on Saturday. The tournament featured 25 teams from across Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York and New Jersey.
Barrington went 3-1 in pool play — the Eagles opened with a win over Division I Chariho and then dropped a close match to Iona Prep, a tough team from New York. Barrington then defeated Haverhill, Mass and Agawam, Mass. to earn a spot in the gold medal playoff bracket.
In the first round of the playoffs, the Eagles powered to a win over Greater New Bedford Voc. The Eagles then defeated a strong team from Kingsway, NJ in the second round. In the semifinals, Barrington lost to North Kingstown, which would go on to win the tournament.
Kelley was selected to the All-Tournament team.
“He was electric all day,” said Coach Lambert.
Barrington will square off against Cranston West at home on Thursday. On Friday, the Eagles travel to North Kingstown for a big non-league game against the Skippers.
