A Westport man was ordered held without bail after police said he broke into a Reed Road home and assaulted a woman early Sunday morning.
Tyson C. Cleaves, 48, of 123 Reed Road, faces charges of aggravated burglary, suffocation/strangulation, assault and battery and intimidation of a witness, and was also arrested on four outstanding warrants, after police were called to the scene early Sunday morning.
Officers Jean Lopez, Michael Chicca and Sean Munzing, along with Sergeant Ryan Nickelson, were dispatched to the area of Reed Road for a disturbance just after 2 a.m. Upon their arrival, they learned that an individual, later identified as Cleaves, had broken into the residence and assaulted a woman inside.
The owner of the property told police that he believed Cleaves was still inside, and police subsequently found him hiding in a bedroom closet. He was placed under arrest without incident and transported to the Westport Police Station for booking. A bail commissioner was contacted and Cleaves was ordered held without bail. He was arraigned on the charges Monday morning in Fall River District Court.
