The Barrington 12-year-olds All Star team, Juniors, 11U and 9-10s have each earned the right to play for District II championships.

The Barrington Majors defeated Darlington 12-5 in the elimination bracket finals on Thursday, July 14 and advanced to the District II finals against Middletown. Barrington, which lost to Middletown earlier in the tournament and dropped into the elimination bracket, will need to beat Middletown twice in order to claim the District II Championship.

Check out details from Barrington's win over Portsmouth.

"After dropping into the lower bracket, we have won five straight games to get into the district final," wrote Barrington manager Chris Abadi. "Myself and the entire coaching staff are extremely proud of these kids for their hard work and determination. We are looking forward to the rematch with Middletown and feel really good about our chances. We also greatly appreciated the community support at our game last (Thursday) night. It definitely gave us a big home field advantage."

Barrington scored runs in every inning against Darlington.

Sam Faulkner led off the game with a walk and eventually scored on a wild pitch. In the second inning, after a David Raposa single, Thomas Rocha hit a 2-run homer to right centerfield. In the third inning, a Jack Kriz double followed by three walks and a wild pitch eventually led to two runs. Sam Faulkner later doubled in the inning was stranded at second.

In the fourth inning, Sam Faulkner hit a solo, moon shot home run to left field. Aaron Brady then singled and showed great base-running prowess by drawing an errant throw to first and coming all the way around to score on a series of physical and mental errors by Darlington.

In the fifth inning, Jack Abadi started it off with a single through the left side of the infield and after Jacob Koble reached on an error, Sam Faulkner hit his second homer of the game, a 3-run shot to left centerfield.

Aaron Brady followed with hard single to left but Darlington was able to get out of the inning.

In the sixth inning, Joey Medeiros and David Raposa walked to start the inning. Thomas Rocha then knocked in a run with a fielders choice and Jacob Koble drove in the final run with single to left.

Jacob Koble got the start on the mound and was dominant. The hard-throwing lefty did not give up a clean hit in four innings of work. He struck out 9 batters. Ned Shapiro then came on and closed it out with 2 innings of solid work, striking out 4 batters.

Barrington will play at Middletown on Sunday, July 17. The game starts at 5:45 p.m.

All Star finals

Barrington's 12-year-olds All Star team is not the only local squad to reach the District II finals this summer.

In fact, three Barrington All Star teams will play for championships this weekend — the Majors, the Juniors, and the 9-10s — and the 11U team will play in a District II finals next weekend.

The 9-10s won their first game of the District II tournament, defeating Pineview, but then lost a close game to Portsmouth 2-0 and dropped into the elimination bracket. Barrington then defeated Fairlawn, Pineview and Tiverton to earn another shot at Portsmouth. The two teams will play at Portsmouth on Saturday, July 17 at 5:45. With a win, Barrington would force a deciding game on Monday.

The Juniors lost their first game of the tournament against Darlington, but have since reeled off three straight wins — defeating Tiverton, Bristol and Darlington. Barrington will play at Rumford on Saturday, July 16; a win would force a deciding championship game on Sunday.

Barrington 11U All Star team defeated Portsmouth 11-3 and shot into the District II finals. Barrington, which is undefeated and average 14 runs per game, awaits the winner of the Portsmouth vs. Bristol game. They are scheduled to play on Saturday, July 23.

More All Star success

Barrington has two AAA teams battling in the Ron Silva District II tournament, and both teams are still alive and looking for the title. The AAA Yellow team is undefeated and will play against Bristol on Saturday, July 16 in a winner's bracket semifinal. The game will be played at Sherwood at 5:45 p.m.

The AAA Blue team, which dropped a tough 15-13 loss to AAA Yellow to move into the elimination bracket, has battled hard and won three straight games. AAA Blue will play against Newport on Saturday at Chianese Field at 5:45 p.m. — a win would move them one game closer to a rematch with AAA Yellow and a possible all-Barrington final.
