Barrington boys finish tied for 10th

A team of Barrington High School girls won the freshmen state track title recently. 

Despite winning just one event, the Eagles outscored every other team at the meet, finishing with 62 points while second-place East Greenwich had 46 points.

Claire Grover picked up Barrington's lone first place points when she won the high jump. Claire cleared the bar at 4 feet, 10 inches. Her teammate Adeline Quas was third at 4 feet, 8 inches, and Liz Edan was fourth at 4 feet, 4 inches. Quas also finished second in the long jump with a distance of 14 feet, 10.5 inches.

In the 3,000 meter race, Barrington's Caroline Rickerman was third, crossing the line with a time of 12:25.53. 

In the 55 meter hurdles, Grover finished second with a time of 9.86 while Quas was fourth with a time of 10.32, and Edan was fifth with a time of 10.53.

The Barrington girls also had two relay teams place — the 4x400 relay was second, finishing just two-one hundredths of a second behind the winners; and the 4x800 relay team finished third. 

Boys meet

The Barrington boys' freshmen track team finished tied for 10th at the state championship meet. 

Walter Joachim was Barrington's top individual finisher; he finished second in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.96. Bill Cauley finished fourth in the weight throw, with a distance of 38 feet, 5.5 inches, and Matt Lopergolo finished sixth in the shot put with a distance of 32 feet, 8.25 inches.
