Barrington police: Man shot near Maple Avenue

Witnesses report hearing three gunshots

Posted

Plastic crime scene markers were placed across a section of Kirby Street on Thursday night, Feb. 2, as Barrington police investigated a shooting.

Yellow caution tape and police cruisers blocked the entrance to Kirby Street from Maple Avenue, and Barrington police detectives were spotted going in and out of a multi-family home that stands just west of Holy Angels Church.

Barrington Police Sgt. Wes McCoy spoke with members of the media at about 7:20 p.m. and said there was one victim in the shooting, a white male. He added that police did not have anyone in custody yet, but did "have some information." Sgt. McCoy said neighbors have no reason to be concerned following the shooting.

Witnesses reported hearing three gunshots at about 5:30 p.m. They also reported seeing a man slumped over near the intersection of Maple Avenue and Kirby Street.

Police would not share any details about the victim or the suspect.
