Barrington wrestling team opens season 2-2-1

Eagles filling about half the weight classes

Barrington High School entered a recent wrestling match against Juanita Sanchez with eight grapplers ready to compete.

Sacrificing the other six weight classes put the Eagles in a 36-0 hole. For some teams, that deficit would have been too much to overcome, but Barrington managed to grind out a 42-42 tie.

"All but one of my wrestlers won by pin, and the last actually had a kid on his back before he got reversed and pinned himself," wrote Barrington coach Drew Genetti in a recent email.

"That's the type of season we will have in D2. Now that we've moved down, we will be competitive in most matches but if we have guys out like last week it's really hard to win against anyone who doesn't have a lot of holes like us."

So far Barrington has built a 2-2-1 record in Division Two and also had a strong showing at the Mt. Hope Invitational last month. Barrington is led by a host of talented wrestlers, including Jacob Mosby at 152 pounds, Nick Rimshytus at 285, Jacob Estrada at 113, Matt Leonard at 120 and Ryan Hellmann at 132.

"Our season is an interesting one, our numbers are really low but we have several high quality kids," Genetti wrote.

At the Mt. Hope Invitational, Barrington brought six wrestlers. All of them had wins and four of the six placed — Matt Leonard was third at 120 pounds, Ryan Hellmann was third at 132, Jacob Mosby was fourth at 152, and Nick Rimoshytus was fourth at heavyweight.

"As a team we finished top 10 out of 20 teams with several highly ranked Mass. teams there, so things are promising," wrote Genetti.
