Meeting tonight, Oct. 26, in Barrington is open to everyone

On Wednesday, Oct. 26, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., there will be a School Start Time Information Night at Barrington High School in the John R. Gray Auditorium.

This will be an opportunity for the district to share information with the community regarding the changes, which will be implemented in the 2017-2018 school year.

See what people had to say at a meeting last spring.

Since Barrington began this work over five years ago, several other districts across New England have begun to implement changes in school start times. This growing interest is based on compelling research demonstrating the sleep cycles of adolescents and the importance associated with both physical and emotional health.

This session will provide the community with information on the change of school start times, as well as provide an opportunity for feedback on the undertaking of this initiative.

For more information please visit the district website. A final report with survey results and analysis will be presented to the School Committee on Nov. 3.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
