To the editor:
Did the organizers of the yoga pants demonstration/parade hurt Hillary Clinton's chances to become history's first female President of the United States?
Unfortunately, the group correctly perceived as overwhelmingly Democratic, certainly didn't help.
The over the top, disproportionate reaction, bullying, and intimidation, was seen as exactly that as evidenced by the vast majority of media comments, editorials, and internet communications from all over the world. The accusations of misogyny and women "being told what to wear" lacked credibility and substance and fell flat in the realm of public opinion.
My letter was correctly seen as satirical fashion statement, and I was just some "jerk" who wrote it. "Is this a joke? Who cares what that guy thinks", were the first words out of everyone's mouth even my harshest critics. They should have held that thought.
Just weeks before the election, their failed attempt at political correctness combined with their hypocritical rhetoric broadcast worldwide did nothing to help the already troubled Clinton campaign.
While the organizers claimed to be peaceful, posts on their official website encouraged vandalizing our home. Posts promoting the demonstration reminded people not to be violent, thus admitting they were considering violence. The organizers claimed that their actions were not directed towards me yet they targeted our home; in chalk they wrote embarrassing graffiti in the street identifying my location which I personally washed away because they did not.
Most disgustingly was the support the organizers received from the Town of Barrington in order to harass us. Town ordinances regarding proper parade permits and protest signs were totally ignored by the police under the sloppy leadership of John LaCross. Town council members including president June Speakman, foolishly marched in the demonstration, which came as no surprise to me. Despite death threats and fear of vandalism the police wanted to charge us for a detail protecting us and our property.
In a nation already fed up with the nonsense of political correctness and the viciousness of political identifying, it was the final straw that broke the camel's back for millions of undecided voters. Their decision suddenly became clear. They did not want this element in control of the country. Millions of Americans who were previously Clinton supporters, like myself, had had enough of that garbage and voted for Donald Trump instead. That's a fact. That's why he won.
Would Hillary Clinton be president today if not for the yoga pants debacle?
I believe she would be but we'll never know for sure. One thing we do know for sure is that they certainly didn't help.
