Turnovers doom Barrington football team against Middletown

Eagles hope to rebound on Friday night against St. Ray's

The Barrington High School football team turned the ball over numerous times against Middletown in Friday night's opener and lost 34-6.

The Eagles' defense made a spirited goal line stand in the first half, stopping the Islanders on a series of plays inside the 5 yard line. Barrington then grabbed a fumble on its own 1 yard line.

But the turnover comparison would shift in Middletown's favor in the second half. Trailing 14-0, Barrington proceeded to turn the ball over three times on three straight possessions.

While the defense was able to hold for a while, it eventually relented and Middletown grew its lead to 21-0.

On the ensuing kickoff,  Barrington's Dante Augustine received the kick, found a crack in the Middletown attackers and out-sprinted a handful of Islanders to the end zone. The Eagles missed the extra-point kick and trailed 21-6.

The Islanders added two more late-game touchdowns and secured the 34-6 victory.

Barrington will play against St. Raphaels Academy in a home game at Victory Field on Friday night.
