William S. Burke, 78,  died Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2016 from Alzheimers disease. 

Born in Pawtucket on May 1, 1938, he was the son of the late Franklin A. and Marion E. (Jacobs) Burke. Mr. Burke was raised in Barrington. He attended the Providence Country Day School, Bowdoin College (B.A.), Rutgers University School of Business (M.B.A.) and the New York School of Law (J.D.). He lived in Brooklyn Heights and Larchmont, New York, where he served as a CPA and attorney. 

Upon his return to Rhode Island in the 1980s, he was employed in the Private Bank of the Hospital Trust Company and its successor banks: BankBoston, Fleet National, and Bank of America. Bill retired in 2008. 

He served in the U.S. Army in Korea during the Cuban Missile Crisis from 1961 to 1962. 

He is survived by a brother,  Richard A. Burke of Providence. He was predeceased by his sister Mary M. Burke and by his brother Robert W. Burke. His services are private. Kubaskafuneralhome.com

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
