Bae — Meeting the needs of diverse learners

Posted

The first pillar of the Barrington Schools Strategic Plan is titled “Student Success,” with an emphasis on the word “all” within the district goal.

At a recent school committee meeting, administrators reported on how the district was addressing the achievement gap among students with special needs, which highlighted the need for more inclusion of these students during common core instruction and training for teachers on various programs and intervention strategies.

Strategic scheduling, efficient use of instructional coaches, and creative ways to collaborate within the district and with outside consultants will ensure that these students are able to access the curriculum within the general education setting. And while focusing on closing the achievement gap among students with special needs is important, we should not lose sight of those who are well beyond the proficient range and who require the enrichment and extension of curriculum that allow them to reach their full potential.

He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
