The Barrington High School boys' varsity lacrosse team is 1-1 so far under new head coach Alex Champagne and assistant Andrew Cloonan.

Barrington played hard against undefeated Moses Brown, but came up a little short, losing 8-3 on Monday. 

Baseball team opens season 1-1.

Ben Sylvester, Owen Curry and Ben Lisle each scored goals. Declan Curry, Ollie Manlove and Matt Block led the team in ground balls and sophomore goaltender Charlie Paras made 14 saves against the Quakers. 

Barrington defeated Cumberland 13-8 in the season opener. Declan Curry scored four goals and Owen Curry had three goals and three assists for six points. Elias Hastings scored twice and Bill LaMotte, Sylvester, Lisle and Max Thurston also tallied scores.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
