Barrington elementary school hosts fun fund-raiser
Food, games and more at Sowams Octoberfest
A large crowd of people turned out for the Sowams Octoberfest at Sowams School on Saturday, Oct. 13.
The weather turned a bit rainy, but that could not dampen the spirits of the children and adults at the event. Organizers decided to have the class games and contests outside on the playground, and held some of the activities — including the fan-favorite Cake Walk — inside the school.
There was plenty of food at the Sowams Octoberfest also, and the cotton candy and popcorn tent drew steady business throughout. In fact, organizers sold out of both treats.
One of the biggest draws was a large inflatable obstacle course that was set up in front of the school. Children ran time and again through the course, which ended with a long slide. The Barrington Fire Department offered a fun activity for youngsters, too.
There was also a raffle for themed class baskets, mystery bags for the kids, hayrides, and an auction.
The Sowams Octoberfest serves as the key fund-raiser for the Sowams School PTO.
