A talented group of seniors will lead the Barrington High School field hockey team this fall. 

Coach Holly Morris said this year's seniors have worked very hard and despite experiencing plenty of success, the girls continue to take a humble, team-first approach when they take the field. 

"This senior class is truly a super special group…" said Ms. Morris. 

The seven seniors include captains Alexy Carolan and Elizabeth Lewis. 

Lewis has scored 75 goals in her first three seasons and has notched 26 assists. Those numbers have helped her earn All-State accolades in her freshman, sophomore and junior years. Ms. Morris said Lewis's hard work and talent are a big reason Barrington teams have earned so many wins over the last three years.

"But what is most impressive about her is how humble she is," said Ms. Morris. "Despite the fact that she is one of the most talented field hockey players that I have seen go through BHS, she is one of the most humble, team-first players that I know … simply the best."

Ms. Morris was also quick to praise Carolan: "Alexy's character is one of a kind … she is one of the most versatile players that we have and this season will be helping us as a right wing. She brings it all and leads by example in every way."   

Perry LaBelle, Caileigh Durkin, Madelyn Cox, Kaleigh Morgan and Olivia Ivatts are Barrington's other seniors and have played crucial roles for the Eagles, said Ms. Morris.

The coach said Cox has started for the Eagles since her freshman season — back then she was a goalie and played in every game. During her sophomore year, Cox moved to offense and scored 13 goals in 11 games. 

"Then last season Maddie was the leading goal scorer in the entire state with 27 goals," said Ms. Morris. "Maddie's hand-eye coordination is simply the best — it's no surprise that she is as talented as she is given her ice hockey and softball skills. She is a true athlete who can do it all."

Caileigh Durkin is a two-time All-State selection in goal for the Eagles. Ms. Morris said Durkin worked very hard to earn the starting position during her sophomore season and "has been there since." 

"Caileigh has a tremendous work ethic and is super determined," said Ms. Morris. "She too has been a leading force in our team's success, one of the most discipline players that I have coached."

Ms. Morris said she is expecting another strong season from LaBelle, a standout mid-fielder for the Eagles.

"Tremendous attitude, leader, she, too, can do it all and is another team-first player who always leads by example," said Ms. Morris. 

She added that LaBelle has "outstanding skills and is a huge contributor — major leader in the back field communicating, distributing the ball and helping to set up our offense."

Ms. Morris said this year's team is also loaded with talented juniors, sophomores and even freshmen. The juniors are Maeve Harrington, Payton Prete, Hayley Gasbarro and Olivia Tutt; the sophomores are Noelle Texeira, Mila Diaz and Zoey Despines; and the freshmen are Vivienne Mueller and Rose Flaherty.

Barrington had been scheduled to play a key early-season game against Moses Brown last Thursday afternoon, but the game was postponed after five minutes of play because of thunderstorms. Ms. Morris said the game was moved to later this month.
