Barrington resident and two-time war veteran Herbert Hudson was recently treated to a special Honor Flight to Washington D.C.

Mr. Hudson was in the U.S. Navy and served as fire control-2nd class during World War II. He served aboard the cruiser, the U.S.S. Dayton, in Pacific Theater. He later was called back into service during the Korean War.

Mr. Hudson was one of 50 World War II veterans who were chosen to participate on the recent Honor Flight, which is sponsored by the Fire Chiefs of Rhode Island.

The trip offered an all-expenses-paid visit to the nation's capital and included a stop at the World War II memorial and a meeting with former Sen. Bob Dole.

"It was a fantastic trip," said Mr. Hudson.

The longtime Barrington resident said the veterans flew out of Providence early in the morning — he said there was a very nice send-off for the veterans. They then enjoyed the full-day of activities, and returned to Rhode Island late that night.

Mr. Hudson was accompanied by his son, Scott.
