The Barrington Middle School construction project entered its 21st week recently.
According to the middle school blog, construction crews were expected to place the slab for the mezzanine and the locker rooms, and frame in the exterior walls. Workers were also expected to continue installing the sewer connections from the building to Lincoln Avenue and Middle Highway.
When the contractor, Brait Builders, is finished with the work, the new school will offer students and faculty a 21st century learning environment for grades 6 to 8.
"Classrooms will have a movable partition to create a collaborative learning space with larger breakout spaces located on each floor for group learning and presentations," stated a recent press release. "Additional features include a 400-seat auditorium, gymnasium, learning commons/media center with maker spaces, a classroom, and presentation area, technology, art and music classrooms, and outdoor learning spaces."
The new school is scheduled to be open in Aug. 2019. Taxpayers approved a $68.4 million bond to pay for the new school, and the state is expected to reimburse the town more than 35 percent of the cost.
