Question: With Barrington being very vulnerable to sea level rise, what specific proposals have you prepared to combat climate change?

• Michael Carroll — "Generally Barrington must adapt to it by thinking long term (i.e, creating the Resilience Committee). Specifically we can, for example, accelerate repair of Mathewson’s sea wall before the road bed erodes, and help residents utilize FEMA grants covering 75 percent of the cost to raise a home above the flood zone."

• Steve Primiano — "Barrington is actively pursuing a plan to address sea level rise in our very vulnerable community.  However, no matter what we do locally, parts of Barrington could be uninhabitable by 2100. The plan needs to deal with the nuisance of increased tidal flooding, recovering from major storms, and a long range plan that addresses permanent changes to our shoreline."

• Jacob Brier — "Prioritizing resiliency and preparedness, while making Barrington more environmentally friendly, is critical. Our sea wall should be fortified and potentially expanded. We must ensure evacuation plans account for all residents and are better communicated than in the past. On the environmentally friendly side: incentivize carbon-neutral development and reward green initiatives."
