A search for a missing 12-year-old Barrington girl eventually led to the arrest of a 34-year-old Lincoln man.
A Barrington resident called 911 at about 1:20 a.m. on Sunday, June 18 to report a missing juvenile. According to the police dispatcher report, a 12-year-old girl from town had left the area in a gray SUV shortly after 1 a.m.
Police searched for the suspect vehicle and put out a notice with surrounding police departments to be on the lookout for the gray SUV.
At about 3:30 a.m., police saw a gray SUV near the Barrington girl’s residence. Officers approached the vehicle and discovered the missing girl. Police called for EMTs, who transported the girl to a hospital.
Police later charged Sebastian Andres Oquendo, 34, of Lincoln, with child endangerment-first offense, contributing to the delinquency of a child under 16, and enticement of a person under 16.
Police said Oquendo and the Barrington girl met through a dating app and later communicated through Instagram. Police are still checking on the extent of the relationship between the girl and Oquendo.
