A Barrington resident called police around 1:15 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 13, after hearing a dirt bike riding up and down the street.
Police officers responded to the area of New Meadow Road near Linden Road and searched for the dirt bike rider. An officer eventually located the suspect at Police Cove Park at about 1:20 a.m.
Police said the dirt bike was not street legal. The driver said the bike was not working, but then got the bike started and sped off down the East Bay Bike Path toward the Barrington Shopping Center.
Police officers drove down County Road to locate the dirt bike driver, and spotted him speeding west down the bike path, headed toward the YMCA.
Police said the dirt bike then took an abrupt turn toward Wood Avenue, but failed to navigate the turn, hit a curb and crashed. Police said the driver was thrown from the bike and suffered some facial injuries. Police said the driver’s helmet fell off during the crash.
Police then spoke to the driver and could allegedly smell the odor of alcohol coming from him. Police charged Gage R. Dyson, 27, of Riverside, with DUI of liquor-blood alcohol concentration unknown-first offense, eluding a police officer, vehicle in a high speed pursuit-first offense, reckless driving, and refusing to take a chemical test-first offense.
