Barrington police responded to two separate incidents of "suspicious" people on Thursday, Oct. 26.

Police received a call at about 5 p.m., for a man who was spotted walking in the middle of Sowams Road. Police located the man, who appeared to be intoxicated — officers said he was slurring his words. When asked why he was walking toward cars in the roadway, the man reportedly told officers that the cars were going too fast and he wanted them to slow down.

The man refused treatment from EMTs and said he did not want to be transported to the hospital. Police also offiered the man a ride home, but he refused.

Bike with no seat

At about 11 p.m. Thursday night, an officer was driving over the White Church Bridge when he saw a man walking across the bridge. About 10 minutes later, the officer saw the same man going back over the bridge in the opposite direction, this time walking with a bicycle.

The officer approached the man and asked what he was doing. The man said he was just at his girlfriend's house. The officer continued to press the man, who later admitted to having taken a bicycle that had been behind the White Church. The bike did not have a seat.

Police said they did not charge the man because the bicycle had not been reported stolen, and may have been abandoned. Police said the suspect lives on Bowden Avenue.
