Incident occurred on Rogers Avenue

Barrington police are investigating a break-in at a Rogers Avenue home that took place on Wednesday, Aug. 16.

One of the residents said she was asleep at about 1:40 a.m. when her dog's barking woke her up. She then saw a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt rifling through items on her porch.

The woman woke up her husband who chased after the man. The intruder, who reportedly dropped a rolled-up hammock that he was trying to steal, fled the area on a bicycle.

The residents called police who responded quickly and began searching the surrounding area. An officer spotted a man matching the description of the suspect riding his bike. The officer chased the suspect, who then ditched the bike and ran on foot to a home in the area of Lake Avenue.
