Barrington resident points replica gun at tree crew

Police: Suspect described as a 'tree hugger'

Posted

Barrington Police responded to a New Meadow Road residence after receiving a 911 call on Wednesday, March 2.

A tree company worker told police a resident had been pointing a gun out a window at a member of the tree crew. Police said the workers — they had been contracted by the electricity provider to trim trees in the area — had been removing a tree on New Meadow Road when a woman inside a nearby home pointed a gun at the worker who was in a bucket lift.

Police spoke to the woman, a 27-year-old, and also investigated the firearm. Police said the gun was a replica of a rifle but was very realistic.

Police said the woman was described by others in the home as a “tree hugger” and she was upset about the crew cutting down the tree. The woman later agreed to speak to a counselor about the situation. She was not charged.
