Barrington school district needs bus monitors

Some school buses completing routes without monitors

Posted

The Barrington School Department is short on bus monitors, and officials are looking to fill the openings.

The district is currently short about three bus monitors, although that number can vary from day to day. On occasion, some of the school buses have been completing student pick-up and drop-off runs without monitors, and when that happens the district reports it to the state.

The school administration has posted the job opening in different places and recently sent out a district-wide email advertising the need for more bus monitors.

Bus monitors work a 180-day calendar — for about 3.5 hours each school day. The workdays are from approximately 7:30 to 9 a.m. and from 2:45 to 4:15 p.m. The monitors earn $12.50 per hour. Substitute bus monitors are also needed and earn $10.50 per hour.

"The school bus monitor is responsible for ensuring the safe loading and unloading of school bus riders, as well as assisting the school bus driver in maintaining acceptable behavior on school buses," stated the email from the district.
