Students at the Montessori Centre of Barrington celebrated the International Day of Peace by singing a special song on Wednesday morning.

The young students gathered in the school's playground area at 9:30 a.m. and sang a special song about peace. Students in public schools across Barrington and beyond also spent the day celebrating peace.

Public schools plan forum for proposed new middle school.

"The International Day of Peace was established in 1981 by the United Nations General Assembly," stated the UN website. "Two decades later, in 2001, the General Assembly unanimously voted to designate the Day as a period of non-violence and cease-fire."

Students at the Montessori Centre of Barrington had prepared for the special event by practicing the song with their teachers. The school's director said the Montessori Centre of Barrington is "all about peace education."
