Eagles improve to 10-3; second place in the division

Barrington celebrated back-to-back 3-0 wins last week, defeating Bay View on Tuesday, Oct. 10 and Ponaganset on Thursday, Oct. 12.

Maile Somera played well against a tough Ponaganset team. Maile finished with 21 kills and 19 digs, while her teammate, Grace Angelini, had six kills and five digs. 

Boys soccer

Barrington opened last week with a 2-1 loss to South Kingstown on Wednesday, Oct. 11, but rebounded with a 2-2 tie against Tolman on Friday, Oct. 13. 

Against the Rebels, Barrington trailed 1-0 with about 20 minutes remaining, but Aiden Doyle scored to tie it up. Nicholas Perugini tallied the assist on the goal. South Kingstown regained the lead a short time later. Barrington's Emmanuel Despines finished the game with nine saves.

Barrington struck first against Tolman as Cooper Sciotto found the back of the Tigers' net. But Tolman battled back and scored twice in the second half to take the lead. Nick Rockwell scored with just a few minutes remaining in regulation to help the Eagles salvage the tie. 

Barrington's record is 4-3-4 in the division.

Girls soccer

Barrington grabbed two victories last week, defeating Toll Gate 3-0 on Tuesday, Oct. 10 and Bay View 6-0 on Friday, Oct. 13. The Eagles also tied South Kingstown, 1-1; South is one of the top-ranked teams in the division.

Anna Downes gave Barrington the lead with a first half goal, while Bella Alssid had the assist. South tied the game with less than 12 minutes remaining. Jenna Park made a game-high 19 saves for Barrington. 

Heather Osman, Olivia Middleton and Bella Richardson each scored goals for the Eagles in the win over Toll Gate, while Middleton, Downes and Elizabeth Grover all finished with assists. Park made eight saves in the shutout.

The Eagles continued to play well in the win over Bay View. Middleton scored four goals, while Elizabeth Enos and Grover also scored. Downes finished with two assists, while Cary Heterick, Idum Benjaminsen and Enos also tallied assists. Jenna Park and Elizabeth Eden shared goaltending duties.

Field hockey

Barrington won three times last week — the Eagles defeated Lincoln 4-0 on Wednesday, Oct. 11, and North Kingstown 2-1 a day later, and crushed Smithfield 8-0 on Monday, Oct. 16. 

Madelyn Cox had a hat-trick for the Eagles, and also tallied an assist to lead Barrington over Lincoln. Elizabeth Lewis scored a goal and had two assists, while Caleigh Durkin helped keep the Lions off the scoreboard.

Against the Skippers, Cox and Mila Diaz each scored while Claudia Kriz notched two assists. Durkin turned away six shots in the victory.

Barrington improved to 12-1-1 with the victories. 

Girls tennis

Barrington rolled into the final week of the regular season with a 12-2 record, strong enough for second place in Division I-Met A. 

The Eagles lost to the division-leading LaSalle Academy Rams last week, 6-1. Barrington's third doubles team of Hope Vetromile and Rayna Mishra won in three sets. A day after the loss, Barrington bounced back with a 6-1 victory over Mt. St. Charles. Caroline Maher, Hope Robertson, Elizabeth Wang and Andreea Dan each won their singles matches, while the doubles teams of Alexis Brenner and Lauren Jay, and Vetromile and Mishra also won.

"We are hoping for a strong finish to a very successful season," said Barrington coach Betsy Brenner.
