The Barrington High School Stagemasters will perform the fall musical, “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” this weekend with three shows — Friday and Saturday evenings as well as a Sunday matinee.

The cast of 40 actors and more than 20 crew will be joined by 20 additional youngsters — friends, family members and students from Hampden Meadows School — acting as extras in the play which lasts an hour and a half plus a brief intermission.

Directed by Barrington High School English teacher Meaghan Corr and produced by fellow teacher Stephanie Spaziatto, the large ensemble cast has different lead actors and narrators in each show.

Friday night, Joseph will be played by freshman Mikey Cox and the narrator will be sophomore Caroline Orchard. Saturday and Sunday’s performances will be led by sophomores Nate Dirksen as Joseph and Grace Lardner as the narrator.

Ms. Corr said that with such a large group of talented actors, it made sense to have double lead characters and narrators.

“We felt the need to grow the strength of the ensemble and this production is intense," she said. "Twenty-five girls have eight costume changes. This is a ‘sung-through’ show, there are no lines and no pauses. They all have to be on-point at all times."

The production is bittersweet for senior Allyson Grant, since it will be her second-to-last play as a student at BHS.

“I’ve been with Stagemasters since ninth grade. It’s been such a big part of my high school experience and I’ve made some very good friends. Everyone involved in the play has worked hard to make this a great show and it always works out in the end,” she said.

New to the high school stage is freshman Mikey Cox, although he has been acting since third grade performing with Arts Alive! then moving to roles at Stadium Theater in Woonsocket.

“I have heard good things about the high school program and it has lived up to the reviews. I love this show after seeing it done professionally recently and I wanted to be a part of it,” Mikey said.

Fellow Stadium Theatre alumni Caroline Orchard acted with Stagemasters in Guys and Dolls last year as a freshman.

“We work hard but it’s still a lot of fun. Everyone is involved and supportive. After a long day of academics, it’s great to get away from the stress of schoolwork,” Caroline said.

The first show on Friday night is being touted as ‘Dinner and a Show’ where food trucks and baked goods will be offered. The event is sponsored by the Barrington High School Parents Association.

From 5 to 8 p.m., dinner will be available for purchase from Mijos Tacos, Friskie Fries, and Championship Melt. People can take their food to the cafeteria and, after eating, head over to the auditorium for the play.

Saturday night's show is at 7:30, and Sunday's show is at 2:30 p.m.
Tickets are $5 for students and children and $8 for adults, and can be purchased at the door.
