Betsey Ward Harrison, 53, of Barrington

Betsey Ward Harrison, 53, peacefully passed on Sunday, April 28, 2019 at Philip Hulitar Hospice Center. During her final days Betsey was surrounded by cherished family and friends.

She was the beloved daughter of H. Allen Harrison and Linda Nichols Harrison. She is also survived by her brother David Harrison.

She was the granddaughter of the late Earl B. Nichols Sr. and Betsey Harris Nichols and the late Alfred Harrison II and Barbara A. Harrison.

She was the niece of Nina and Richard Harrison, William and Laurie Nichols, Earl and Julie Nichols, and Paula K. Nichols.

Betsey resided in Barrington and Bristol, RI for most of her life. She graduated from Barrington High School, Lasell College and Katherine Gibbs going on to work at GTech, KPMG, A. Harrison Mfg., Citizens Bank and most recently at her family business, the Picket Fence.

She was a lifelong member of the Dunes Club, her “happy place.” She loved her pugs, especially Rex who was by her side for 14 years. She was an enthusiastic fan of the Red Sox and Patriots.

During her exceptionally long and courageous battle with cancer Betsey was a pillar of strength, never giving up the fight. Her smile and zest for life were inspiring. She was a fine example of class and grace.

She was a loving daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, and cousin and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

A memorial service was held at Newman Congregational Church, Rumford, RI In lieu of flowers, donations in Betsey’s memory may be sent to HopeHealth Hospice, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02904.. condolences may be left at monahandrabblesherman.com

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
