Eagles defeat Central and Wheeler

The Barrington High School boys track team celebrated a double-win during a meet on Monday night, defeating Central 52-48 and Wheeler 96-4. 

Barrington had a number of event winners — Eliot Laidlaw was tops in the 3,000, while Sam Read ran to a first place finish in the 300. Jack Dunn won the shot put event and the weight throw, and Walter Joachim-Delpoio raced to a first place finish in the 55-meter hurdles. George Wicker won the 1,500-meter race and Brendan Fay raced to victory in the 1,000.

On Jan. 3, Barrington split against division competition. The Eagles defeated Moses Brown 88-12, but lost to LaSalle 59-41. Joachim-Delpoio won the 55-meter hurdles, and Sam Read won the 55-meter dash. Barrington's 4x200-meter relay team of Ben Geoghegan, Ryan Brady, Matthew Zeleznik and Read won with a time of 1:40.45. 

Barrington also competed in the World Trophies Invitational meet on Jan. 6. Laidlaw had a strong showing, winning both the 3,000-meter race and the 1,000. Also, Barrington's 4x800-meter relay team of Wicker, Calvin Hennessey, Dominic Portelli and Jamie Gunness won first place with a time of 8:58.42. Dunn finished second in the weight throw.

A handful of Barrington High School student-athletes competed in the Dartmouth Relays at Dartmouth College. 

In the girls 20-pound weight throw, Annika Kelly finished second while Sydney Polando finished seventh. 

Boys basketball

Barrington knocked off Portsmouth, 72-56, on Tuesday, Jan. 2. Mike Coogan scored 21 points to lead all scorers, while William Rywolt dropped in 14 and Ben Silvia added nine. 

The Eagles fell behind against Shea on Monday night, and came up two points shy in the end, losing 76-74. Coogan scored 24, Rywolt had 21 and Silvia finished with 10. Deven Connors added eight for the Eagles, whose division record moved to 2-2. 

Girls basketball

Barrington improved to 2-1 in the division with a key victory over Moses Brown, 41-31, on Wednesday, Jan. 3. The Quakers had been undefeated prior to the showdown with Barrington. 

Andrea Kubas-Meyer scored 21 points to lead the Eagles, while Alex Marinelli finished with eight points and 10 rebounds. Olivia Middleton also scored eight points in the victory.

Boys swimming

The Eagles are 1-0 on the season after opening with a 53-27 victory over Moses Brown. Barrington's relay teams led the way — the 200 free relay team of Alston Stone, Luke Gorham, Ian Smith and Andrew Barton won with a time of 1:39.25, and the 200 medley relay team of a Ben Vesey, Barton, Smith and Stone was also victorious. Vesey won the 100 backstroke, Smith won the 100 free, and Goe Baqumyan won the 50 free. 

Girls swimming

Barrington opened its season with a 59-31 win over Moses Brown. Cali Diehl won the 50 freestyle, while Ellie Wind was tops in the 100 free. Stella Alexandre won the 100 breaststroke and Kaley Swintak won the 100 butterfly. Sophie Piette had the fastest time in the 200 freestyle. The 200 medley relay team of Rachel Baker, Wind, Melanie Baker and Julia Zulker won with a time of 2:03.49.
