Last week marked the end of the road for three Barrington High School fall sports teams.
The field hockey team lost 2-1 to East Greenwich in the semifinals. The girls tennis team fell to North Kingstown 5-2 in the semifinals. And the Barrington boys soccer team lost 2-1 to Hendricken in the quarterfinals.
The BHS field hockey team trailed East Greenwich before the Eagles’ Emma Mueller tied it up. Mueller dribbled the ball past a few defenders and fired a rocket into the back of the East Greenwich net. The score remained tied 1-1 through the end of regulation. In the final few seconds of the first overtime period, East Greenwich fired a pair of tough shots toward the Eagles’ goal. Barrington turned away the first, but the Avengers buried the second and won, 2-1. East Greenwich went on to win the state title over Moses Brown.
A pair of mistakes cost the Barrington High School boys soccer team two goals in its quarterfinal game against Hendricken. The Eagles trailed 2-0 at the half, but cut that lead in half when George Zhukov scored off a rebound.
