Boys basketball team improves to 12-5 in league play

The Barrington High School boys basketball team won twice last week. The Eagles defeated Portsmouth 57-47 on Friday, Feb. 15 and also beat North Providence 64-49 on Saturday, Feb. 16.

Will Rywolt knocked down five three-pointers and finished with 29 points to lead the Eagles against Portsmouth. Barrington led 26-25 at the half, before Rywolt exploded for 25 of his 29 points in the second half. Ben Batting finished with 10 points and Ryan Bonneau added nine. 

Against the Cougars, Brendan Conaty and Rywolt combined to score 37 points, while Batting added 11 and Ben Silvia and Bonneau each scored seven. 

The Eagles record now stands at 12-5 in the league.

Girls basketball 

The Barrington High School girls basketball team defeated Moses Brown 50-46 on Friday, Feb. 15, and improved to 12-4 in the league. The Eagles were scheduled to play at Rogers on Tuesday and will finish out the regular season with a game at home against Portsmouth on Wednesday, Feb. 20.

Boys hockey

The Eagles ended the regular season with a 7-2 loss to LaSalle on Friday, Feb. 15. Barrington opened the scoring in the first period when Matt Spears scored an unassisted short-handed goal at the 3:55 mark. LaSalle then reeled off four straight goals to take a commanding 4-1 lead. Spears notched his second goal toward the end of the second period to cut the lead to 4-2, but LaSalle scored three times in the third to secure the victory. The loss dropped Barrington's record to 2-11-1.

Barrington lost 3-2 to Smithfield on Saturday, Feb. 9. The Eagles trailed 2-0 before scoring two goals in the third period. Spears scored both goals, while Matt Bates and Owen Crain each had assists. Smithfield broke the 2-2 tie with a goal at the 14:55 mark of the third.
