Cassar: We all deserve high quality health services

Posted

Many Rhode Islanders are struggling to access health care services. Talking with voters, I regularly hear that there are two significant challenges. First, many people find it difficult to get an appointment with a health care provider, especially for primary care services. Second, many feel the burden of copays and high deductibles when they need to see a specialist or multiple specialists. and have a number of appointments requiring payments.

These two factors cause individuals to not receive care when they need it, because they cannot get seen in a timely fashion or they delay care because they cannot afford the copays and deductibles. Our communities and families are stronger and more economically stable when individuals have access to affordable health care. All Rhode Islanders deserve a system that provides affordable, comprehensive, high quality health services that helps them stay healthy throughout their lives. I support legislation and regulations that work to create and maintain such a system.
