Prout School pitcher Vanessa Oatley tossed a no-hitter and allowed just one Barrington batter to reach base, as the Crusaders defeated the Eagles 7-0 in the Division II winner's bracket finals on Monday night, June 11.
The Prout win forced a winner-take-all rematch against the Eagles on Wednesday, June 13. The game will be played at Rhode Island College at 6 p.m.
Oatley was impressive in the victory — she struck out 13 Barrington batters and did not allow a single hit. The Eagles' ace, Paige Concannon, did not allow a run through the first four innings, but the Crusaders scored five runs in the top of the fifth inning and plated two more in the top of the seventh.
Barrington, which entered the Division II playoff tournament as the second seed, defeated South Kingstown, Johnston and Rogers en route to the winner's bracket final.
Prout, the top-seeded team in the tournament, defeated Mt. St. Charles 11-0 in the first round, but then lost to Rogers 10-2 in the quarterfinals and dropped into the loser's bracket. Prout then defeated South Kingstown, Johnston and Rogers, earning a shot at Barrington.
