Holy Angels Church Choir to present 'Lessons and Carols'

Special Christmas service is set for Sunday, Dec. 16

The Holy Angels Church “Lessons and Carols” presentation will be held on Sunday, Dec. 16, at 5 p.m., when the parish choir presents its nondenominational Christmas service for the community.

“It’s a time to gather and reflect on the central spiritual story of Christmas, as told by traditional readings from both Old and New Testaments that are either the prophecies of the Messiah or readings associated with Christ's birth,” said Nicholas Rocha, the church’s director of Music Ministry.

The event is open to the public free of charge.

According to Mr. Rocha, in lieu of admission, non-perishable food donations for the less fortunate will be accepted at the doors of the church before the concert. Complimentary sandwiches and refreshments will follow.

“Each reading will be followed with a choral meditation to be performed by our church choir,” Mr. Rocha explained, “as well as with a traditional carol for the congregation to sing with the choir. Additionally, the Women's Guild will be providing refreshments for everyone following the service's conclusion.”

“The Parish Choir works diligently to make this such a successful event,” Holy Angels publicist Shawn DeHart has said in the past. “This special performance will offer an opportunity to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas.”

“The Parish Social Outreach Ministry will distribute the food to the less fortunate in time for Christmas,” he continued. “After the performance, complimentary finger roll sandwiches and desserts will be offered in the presentation room adjoining the church.”

According to Mr. Rocha, who has served as parish director of music ministry for a number of years now, choir members have continued their rehearsals with much enthusiasm.

“Things have been going along well,” he noted. “We’re hoping for a good turnout.”

Recently, the group gathered in the church for one of its final rehearsals and the excitement was infectious. Everyone was thrilled at the prospect of another great evening of word and song.

Choir members include Lilli Carriere, Barbara Gracie, Maria Carriere, Cathy Alteri, Marie Mascena, Diana Carvalho, David Carriere, Debbie Clancy, and JoAnn Smith.
