Recently, Kids Kove Playground behind government center got a facelift and more improvements are in the works, according to Barrington Department of Public Works (DPW) Director Joe Piccirelli.

Every year the DPW adds specialized mulch to the playground that was built 10 years ago. The mulch is not treated with chemicals and is processed to avoid injury if a child falls on it.

The plastic “windows” in the towering play structure will be replaced this fall. There are four outlook windows that are showing their age with scratches and discoloration.

“We added 90 yards of specialized playground mulch. Mike Sousa from our crew maintains the playground and keeps it in good working order,” Mr. Piccirelli said.

The cost of the mulch was $2,200 and funds came from the DPW’s operating budget. The play area at Sowams Elementary School also received a new batch of mulch recently, he added. That was funded through the Barrington School Department.
