Josephine Bettencourt, of Barrington

Josephine (Zinni) Bettencourt, of Sowams Road, died peacefully on Friday, March 30, 2018. She was the wife of the late John E. Bettencourt. 

A lifelong resident of Barrington, she was the daughter of the late Giovanni and Filomena (Benedetti) Zinni. 

Mrs. Bettencourt was a dispatcher for the Town of Barrington Police & Fire Departments for 30 years before retiring in 1990. 

Josephine was a communicant of Holy Angels Church, where she was a member of the Women’s Guild. She enjoyed assembling jigsaw puzzles, traveling across the country with her late husband and spending time with her loving family. 

She is survived by two daughters, Jo-Ann M. Coleman of Riverside and Janet Martone of Barrington; four grandchildren, Tricia Motta, Ronald Coleman, Nicole Cram and Michael J. Martone and three great-grandchildren, Brandon Motta, Abigail Martone and Tyce Lorance. She was the sister of the late Anna Castiliego, Mary Cipriano, Frank, Anthony, Nicholas, Daniel and James Zinni. 

Her funeral was held on Monday, April 2, from the W. Raymond Watson Funeral Home, 350 Willett Ave., Riverside with a Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Angels Church, Maple Avenue, Barrington. Burial will be held in Santa Maria del Campo Cemetery, Upland Way, Barrington.  For online condolences please visit wrwatsonfuneralhome.com

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
