To the editor:
Generally, the work and thoughtfulness of the Barrington Times is beneficial to the community.
The editorial about openness of the school board meeting is lacking in experiential learning and out of touch with many factors essential to accomplishing significant business at any such gathering. Beyond that, I will make no assumptions as to the motivation of such an editorial.
Some serious questions are appropriate. Have you ever attempted to manage a meeting with constant interruptions from people who only come to occasional meetings, often do not do their homework on the subjects at hand, or attend regularly and have an opinion or perception about almost every topic on the agenda but no responsibility for what action may be needed.
Please revisit your thinking. Having served on the school committee for more than seven years, during times of growth and change. The comments and observations do not fit the reality of managing a school system and committees. Such meetings are not free for all "workshops." An open democracy requires thoughtful procedures not chaos.
