To the editor:
The latest town council letter has indicated that the seniors (a majority?) that missed the Dec. 1 deadline for the tax exemption can still apply next January. But they may not receive the same exemption that the "on time" seniors may receive.
But doesn't that raise a legal issue, in that the same class and group must be treated equally for taxing purposes? They could have a constitutional quarrel with the council and town.
And what of the rest of the seniors (including me) that jumped through crazy hoops to satisfy the council demands? Don't we now have a moral quarrel with the council, as any future senior does not have to provide any income data whatsoever to get an exemption?
Also, the letter stated that our paper information we sent is secure in a locked building, locked doors and in a locked safe. Safe? Maybe.
And what of the RI legislation. Do you they really want to get involved in Barrington's mess and legalize the council's actions?
So, what scrip do we have: Moliere or Euripides?
