Letter: Our legislators voted against the taxpayers

Posted

To the editor:

The Barrington Republican Town Committee strongly condemns the votes of our three State representatives on Perpetual ‘Evergreen’ Contracts.

Senator Cynthia Coyne, Representative Joy Hearn, and Representative Jason Knight all fell in lock step with Democrat party leadership when they voted for this bill, against the express wishes of our town council, and against the best interests of our town.

Union lobbyists are pressing hard for an override vote on the Evergreen Contracts bill, which was vetoed by the Governor (who thankfully recognized how destructive this bill is). This would allow expired union contracts to remain in force in perpetuity, effectively removing the incentive for unions to negotiate with municipalities over the terms and conditions of employment.

This bill is very bad news for our town and our state.

Our representatives voted against the taxpayers.

Please let them know that you don’t want them to override the Governor’s veto. Let them know that you want them to stand with our town and stand up to the union lobbyists.

He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far.
