Letter: Thank you, Barrington DPW, for the storm cleanup

Kudos to the Barrington Public Works Department for the cleanup on Zephyr Lane a few days after the storm.  They took care of a request to get a dangerous situation off the road, took away fallen branches that they had deposited on our lawns in order to clear the street, and went far beyond what was asked of them.

We appreciate their courtesy after what has been for them a very busy week and they deserve our thanks.

On another note, while the sidewalks in the Maple Avenue area are very attractive and make the area "walking friendly" (although I'm not sure that people actually walk from store to store), we on the north end of town would like to see "walking safely" sidewalks for our town's kids who walk to Primrose and the middle school.  when the middle school children get out, they are walking in the gutters and the very unsafe area of so-called "sidewalks."

The "non" sidewalks where they even exist are hazardous to walk or bike on not only for children, but for adults with baby strollers who walk in the road because there are no sidewalks. I wonder if someone could answer the question of why this hasn't been taken care of or when it will before a tragedy happens.
