Lynne Anne Belanger Kemp, devoted wife and mother, passed away on February 4, 2019 at her home, with her family by her side.

Lynne was a kind and gentle spirit who gave wholeheartedly to all who knew her. She was born on February 18, 1955 in Cambridge, Massachusetts and was the daughter of Ruth Owens Ward and Charles Edward Belanger. She grew up in Barrington, R.I and attended Fatima High School.

Lynne spent her summers with her family in Manomet, Massachusetts where she swam, rowed her father’s boat and read books. Lynne married William Joseph Kemp IV of Barrington on October 9, 1979 and had four children whom they raised in Warren, R.I.. Lynne spent her time gardening, baking and knitting. She was a talented craftswoman and worked alongside her husband to restore her family home, the Van Syckle house.

Lynne was very involved in the special education community and cared deeply about equality and diversity. She fought to mainstream her son John into the public school system and worked toward inclusion in the classroom. Lynne served on the Special Education Advisory committee, the Juvenile Hearing board and was a former member of the Down syndrome society of R.I. and the Warren Historical Society.

Lynne leaves behind her husband William “Woody” Kemp, her sisters Laurie Keenan and Lisa Arel, her children Katy Kemp, Nicole Kemp, William J. Kemp V, John Kemp, son-in-law Nicholas Marcoux; and five grandchildren: Mara, Ari, Djuna, Lynora, and Dakota.

Services will be held at 9 am Saturday, February 16 at St. Mary of the Bay in Warren, R.I.
