Applying for a building permit in Barrington? You now need to go online to do so.

The Town of Barrington recently moved much of its permit applications online with the statewide e-permitting system. E-permitting allows residents and contractors to apply for a variety of permits online, including building, electrical, mechanical and plumbing permits.

The site — www.barringtonri.viewpointcloud.com — streamlines the permit application process, say town officials. The e-permitting will also allow people to sign up for notifications and news, and use electronic payments.

The move to e-permitting is coupled with a move away from paper applications. Residents and contractors can contact Mary Ann Rosenlof at 247-1900, ext. 326 or via email at mrosenlof@barrington.ri.gov.

There is an online tutorial for the statewide e-permitting system at permits.ri.gov/tutorials
