New Thai restaurant in Barrington offers dine-in and take-out

Owners Kunniga and Pele Rittipa also live in town

New to the restaurant scene in Barrington is The Boss Thai 2, located on Waseca Avenue in the space formerly used as The Zone Verizon Wireless store. The Boss Thai 2 opened last fall and the owners said they have been well received by the community.

Owned by married couple Kunniga and Pele Rittipa, this is the second Boss Thai restaurant the couple have owned, the first was in Bellingham, Mass.

They came to Barrington after serving customers in Bellingham who encouraged them to open in town.

“Customers said we should come to this area and after investigating, we decided to open here in Barrington. The people have been very nice and like our Thai food,” Kunniga said.

Most, if not all of the cooking is done by Pele. His parents owned Luke Thai in Wakefield, RI for many years where the younger couple helped out and learned the business. But after Pele’s parents passed away, the younger restaurateurs moved the business to Massachusetts.

Creating authentic, fresh Thai cuisine, the couple keep an immaculate dining room with seating for 20 patrons. Complete with cloth napkins and a calming atmosphere, the decor is traditional Thai with pictures of the nation’s king and queen on the walls.

The kitchen is equally immaculate with all new equipment. They only stock fresh ingredients that they purchase regularly at an Asian market in Providence.

Although they have a busy dinner eat-in clientele, they do a great take-out and delivery business throughout the day.

Tricia Heslip orders from The Boss Thai 2 often and loves the freshness of the food and the prices.

"I have eaten at the new Thai restaurant a number of times think is very authentic food. The lunch specials are great where you can get a salad, appetizer and entree for around $10,” she said.

Some of their signature dishes include lemon grass chicken, crispy shrimp volcano and red coconut wings. Thai food can be spicy but they can adjust the level of hotness from mild to very spicy by adding Thai chili peppers.

The couple lives in Barrington with their three children, ages 13, six and seven years old.

“We like it here after having lived in Woonsocket. Our children are doing well in school and we love Barrington,” Kunniga said.

During the winter months, they are offering a 10 percent off special on Monday and Tuesdays and have a loyalty program where every $100 spent qualifies for $5 off a future purchase.

They offer gift certificates of any denomination.
