Norma Elwood Schreiber Young, 86, of Riverside, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 19, 2017 at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence.

Norma was born in Elizabeth, NJ, to Mabel and Elwood Schreiber. She graduated from Batin High School in Elizabeth in 1949 and graduated from The Berkeley School. Working as an executive secretary, she met and married Edmund G. Young of Carlisle, Pa., in 1955. After raising their three daughters, Norma returned to work as an administrative and managerial professional. She retired from the RI Department of Labor and Training in 2007.

A longtime resident of Barrington, Norma was very active in a number of local organizations including The League of Women Voters and Friends of the Library. She also enjoyed more than 40 years of bridge with a wonderful group of women from the Barrington area. She loved books, ballet, and the beach, and she spent many of her vacations with friends and family in Cape Cod, San Diego, and the coast of the Carolinas and Mexico.

Pre-deceased by her husband of 32 years, Norma is survived by daughter Nicki Lee and son-in-law Chris Lee of Hampshire, England; daughter Holly Young and grandson Jamie DeCarolis of San Diego, Calif.; daughter Elizabeth Young and son-in-law Robert Cooper of Houston, Texas; and brother Donald D. Schreiber of Roselle Park, NJ; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members.

A service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 25 at the Redwood Chapel, Swan Point Cemetery, 585 Blackstone Blvd., Providence, with a reception in the Gray-Coale Hall immediately following.

Norma was a longtime supporter of Doctors without Borders and the Rhode Island Community Foodbank, and memorial donations to either organization would be welcomed. Please visit smithmason.com for online condolences.
