Police charge Fall River man with drug possession

Police: Man was carrying cocaine, ammunition

Barrington police responded to the intersection of Massasoit Avenue and Agawam Road at about 3 a.m. on Saturday, July 8 for a disabled motor vehicle, but eventually charged the car's driver with possession of drugs.

When police arrived on the scene, they saw Felipe M. Lemos, 22, of Fall River, Mass., standing near his vehicle, talking into a cell phone. One of the car's front tires was badly damaged.

Police also noticed a male passenger in the front seat of the car; the man appeared to be passed out and had drool and vomit on his clothes. Police said the inside of the vehicle smelled strongly of burnt marijuana.

Police searched Mr. Lemos for weapons and did not find any. They did, however, reportedly find a firearm magazine clip that contained rounds of .22 caliber ammunition. Police questioned Mr. Lemos about the clip, but he reportedly denied knowing about it. He later told police he had found the clip in a parking lot in Providence earlier that night.

Police officers then searched the car and allegedly found a digital scale, a drawstring backpack containing 8.2 ounces of marijuana and a plastic baggie containing a white powdery substance that later tested positive for cocaine.

Police charged Mr. Lemos with possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana-first offense, and driving in possession of a controlled substance.
