Barrington Police located a missing teenage girl at about 3:15 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20.

Police said the girl, described as a 19-year-old Barrington resident wearing sweatpants and a hockey jersey, was located in the backyard of a Cherry Lane home, a short distance from where police officers had set up for the extensive search. 

Barrington Police Chief Michael Correia said the girl was exhausted, but otherwise OK. 

A large police and fire department presence was seen on Cherry Lane shortly after the girl was found. She had been found huddled next to a grill in someone’s backyard, police said. 

Barrington Police and Rhode Island State Police had earlier gathered at the parking lot near the Upland Way weight throwing circle, also known as Robert Gourley Field. 

Officers used four aerial drones and three K-9 units to search the woods near Tiffany Pond. 

A witness told the Barrington Times that he had been walking his dog along the cross country running trails near the pond when he was approached by a Rhode Island State Police Officer with a dog. The officer asked the resident to leave the woods as they were conducting the search. 

Police issued an alert at about 1 p.m. — it stated that the department was attempting to locate a missing 19-year-old who was last seen walking on Lincoln Avenue at about 8 a.m. that morning. She was wearing gray sweatpants and a white, blue and gold hockey jersey. It included a phone number for people to call if they had any information about the missing girl. 

Police said the girl was not a current student at Barrington High School. A parent had called police earlier in the day to report that she had gone missing. 

After the girl was found, Chief Correia praised all the law enforcement agencies who assisted with the search. He said their help was vital to the overall effort.
