Police: Stolen golf carts and damaged greens

Two golf carts found at Haines Park, a third on South Lake Drive

An official at Rhode Island Country Club in Barrington reported damage to two of the greens on the golf course on Tuesday, Oct. 16.

The official said it appeared someone had ridden a motorbike across the greens on the third hole and sixth hole. It is not clear who may have been responsible for the damage.

Barrington police are also investigating the apparent theft of three golf carts. One of the carts was found on South Lake Drive near the RICC property, but it did not belong to the country club.

The two other carts were found at Haines Park. Officers traced the carts back to their rightful owners — the Squantum Association in East Providence.

It is believed the carts were stolen from the Squantum and then driven down the bike path before they were abandoned at Haines Park.

The carts were transported to the country club and will be held there until officials from the Squantum Association retrieve them. Police are still trying to locate the owner of the third cart.
