PORTSMOUTH — Police charged a Middletown woman Monday night with two felony assault charges after she allegedly struck her ex-boyfriend with a wooden bat, sending him to the hospital.

Dakota J. Migliori, 20, of 40 Allston Ave., Middletown, was arrested just before 11 p.m. on charges of felony domestic assault and felony assault using a dangerous weapon or substance. 

According to police, a 19-year-old Tiverton man said he stopped his vehicle at Portsmouth Liquors on West Main Road to buy cigarettes at about 5:50 p.m. when another vehicle containing Ms. Migliori — his ex-girlfriend — and an unidentified man pulled up. 

The Tiverton man said he, a friend and a family member got back into his car and proceeded down Stringham Road, followed by the Magliori vehicle, police said. The Tiverton man then stopped his car, as did the other vehicle.

The Tiverton man told police that Ms. Migliori got out of the car she was in and swung a wooden bat at his friend before striking him several times.

After the alleged assault, the trio returned to the car and headed to Tiverton, where that town’s Fire Department transported the victim to St. Anne’s Hospital for treatment of his injuries, police said. 

After issuing an arrest warrant, police took custody of Ms. Migliori in Middletown at around 10:40 p.m.

Wednesday, May 3

Robert J. Holmes, 19, of 63 Black Point Lane, was charged with domestic disorderly conduct following an incident at Bourbon Street home shortly before noon. Police said Mr. Holmes punched and broke a mirror at the home during an argument.

Thursday, May 4

David A. Traynum, 38, of 195 Admiral Kalbfus Road, Apt. 22D, Newport, was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle/parts and driving without the consent of the owner, both felonies; as well as obstructing an officer while in the execution of duties and driving without a license. The charges stem from an April 20 call that local police received from Middletown Police, alerting them to be on the lookout for a vehicle that had been taken from that town sometime after midnight. The day before, on April 19, Portsmouth Police stopped a car for speeding near East Coast Construction on Boyd’s Lane. Police later learned that the driver was David Traynum, but he initially misidentified himself after being stopped — as his younger brother, police said. Police said they knew from previous experience that David Traynum had an extensive history of vehicle thefts — he had just been released from the Adult Correctional Institutions on a related charge, according to police — and had attempted to give police false information on previous occasions. A warrant was issued for his arrest and at 1 p.m. on May 4, members of the U.S. Marshall Service/R.I. State Police Violent Fugitive Task Force, along with a Portsmouth Police officer, apprehended Mr. Traynum in a Cumberland Farms parking lot in Cranston, police said. He was transported to Middletown Police for processing.

George R. Matthews, 64, of 48 West Passage Drive, was charged at 9:21 p.m. with domestic assault and domestic disorderly conduct. According to police, Mr. Matthews struck a 49-year-old woman on the right side of her face during an argument at his home. He also allegedly stabbed a TV stand with a screwdriver, leaving two holes, and slammed lamps and tables off the ground, according to police.

Saturday, May 6

Brittany L. Rose, 26, of 121 Whipple Ave., Barrington, was charged with driving while intoxicated (first offense) at about 3:45 a.m. Police said they stopped her car for speeding on West Main Road at Lehigh Terrace.

Monday, May 8

Leslie A. Daignault, 49, of 757 East Road, Apt. 3, Tiverton, was arrested at 5:32 p.m. on a felony Superior Court bench warrant. A patrol officer who had knowledge of the warrant spotted Ms. Daignault sitting in a car in the parking lot of Portsmouth Plaza, according to police.
