Public invited to Barrington farm property celebration

Land trust will offer tours of the Vendituoli property

Posted

The Barrington Land Conservation Trust is hosting a public celebration of its acquisition of the Vendituoli Farm on Sunday, Aug. 26, from 3 to 5 p.m.

The land trust recently purchased the property from the Estate of William Vendituoli with the help of a DEM Open Space Grant and donations from 243 donors.

Vendituoli Farm is located on Federal Road near its intersection with Middle Highway. The 3.24-acre property, which had been farmed by the Vendituoli family since 1897, consists of farm land and forested open space that provides undisturbed habitat for birds, animals and pollinators and helps protect a vital wetland corridor that runs through the Town of Barrington.

The farm land currently is being utilized by the Barrington Farm School in its efforts to educate local youth about planting, growing, harvesting and selling agricultural products.

There is a farm stand on the edge of the property along Federal Road. Most days there are piles of fresh vegetables for sale — summer squash and cucumbers, tomatoes and corn. There is also honey from local bees.

The Farm School relies on an all-volunteer staff.

Barrington Land Conservation Trust officials hope that anyone interested in celebrating the acquisition of the Vendituoli Farm will join them at the farm on Sunday afternoon.

Following brief remarks, the farm will be open for tours and light refreshments will be served.
