Two Republicans won seats on the town's Committee on Appropriations during a vote at the end of Wednesday night's financial town meeting in Barrington.

Dr. Lisa Daft and John Alessandro both won seats on the COA and will join fellow Republican Stephen Primiano on that committee. The other vacant seat was won by incumbent Cynthia Rosengard, a Democrat. The other member of the committee is its chairman Richard Staples, who is unaffiliated.

Mr. Alessandro, a former member of the Barrington School Committee, was the top vote-getter on Wednesday night. He had run for re-election for the school committee in 2018, but fell short of the necessary votes. Instead, Democrats Gina Bae, Erika Sevetson and Patrick McCrann won seats on the school committee.

On Wednesday night, Mr. Alessandro said he was pleased with the COA election results.

"I feel good, good," said Mr. Alessandro. "I mean, I went from getting the least amount of votes to getting the most amount of votes."

Dr. Daft said she was very excited to begin her work with the Committee on Appropriations.

"I'm excited to serve the people of Barrington. I think the people of Barrington spoke tonight — in the matter of the referendum and they voted for balance on the COA. And I think that's what John and I will bring them," she said. 

Six candidates ran for the three vacant COA seats. In addition to Ms. Rosengard, Mr. Alessandro and Dr. Daft, Barrington residents Jude Kostas, Michael DeAngelis and Jim Sanderson also declared their intentions to serve on the local board.
