Rev. James G. Lockhart, formerly of Barrington

Rev. James G. Lockhart died peacefully at home on Saturday, April 29, 2017, after a short illness. He was the beloved husband of Sally Benson Lockhart for 52 years. They lived together at 19 Miles Ave in Tiverton for the last 17 years. Jim was born in Pittsburg, Pa. on Feb. 24, 1943.

He was predeceased by his parents George Lockhart, Willis Black and Clara Schonefeld Black, and 2 of his 6 siblings, Carol Maise and James Black. Surviving siblings include Judy Deahl, of Butler, Pa., Bill Lockhart of Newcastle, Pa., Dianne Burke of Wayland, Mass., and Merry Snyder of Denver, Colo.

Jim was the proud father of Todd Lockhart of East Providence, and Jeffery Lockhart and his wife Sarah Lockhart of Warwick. He is survived by his 3 beloved grandchildren, Luke, James Peter (JP), and Lilly Lockhart.

Jim graduated from Butler High School in 1961, Westminster College in 1965, and Pittsburg Seminary in 1968. During his career as a minister in the Presbyterian Church USA, he served as pastor to the Grand Island Presbyterian Church, the Oakwood Avenue Presbyterian Church, in Troy NY, and the Barrington Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Presbytery of Southern New England. After his retirement, he faithfully attended Providence Presbyterian Church.

He loved God, and was loved by many.

His memorial service will be held on Friday, May 5, at 2 p.m. at the Providence Presbyterian Church, 500 Hope Ave. in Providence, RI 02906

His family has asked, in lieu of flowers, to make a donation to the Memorial Fund at the Providence Presbyterian Church.
